Linda S. Lippa, MD Professor Specialty: Comprehensive Ophthalmology
Dr. Lippa received her A.B., magna cum laude, in 1973 from Harvard University, and her MD in 1977 from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York. |

She completed her internship in Internal Medicine in 1978 at St. Luke’s Hospital and Medical Center, one of Columbia University’s teaching hospitals.

She completed her residency and chief residency in Ophthalmology at the Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. She studied pathology with Dr. Frederick Jakobiec, retired chairman of Ophthalmology at Harvard, and was selected for a prestigious Heed Foundation Fellowship in Ophthalmic Pathology at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago.
In addition to practicing Comprehensive Ophthalmology since 1984, she has served on the clinical faculties of Cook County Hospital and Loyola University in Chicago, the University of Minnesota and Wills Eye Hospital/Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, before relocating with her family to Southern California in 1993.
Currently Professor of Ophthalmology, Dr. Lippa is also Director of Ophthalmology Medical Education, in the Dean’s College of Medical Educators, having instituted a novel integrated 4 year ophthalmology curriculum as a UCIMC Dean’s Scholar. She is a career advisor and mentor for medical students. In addition to teaching medical students, Dr. Lippa also trains residents in Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine and Family Medicine. She is the chair of the Comprehensive Ophthalmology Service at UCI.
Nationally, she is the Chair of the Medical Education Task Force of the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology, the founder of a new North American Consortium of Ophthalmology Medical Education Directors, and serves on the Clinical Skills and Faculty Development Task Force of the Association of American Medical Colleges.
Dr. Lippa’s diverse research interests include ocular tumors and inflammatory diseases of the eye and orbit, glaucoma and medical education . She has given presentations at regional and national meetings, has published several articles, and a book chapter, and has been recognized with Columbia’s Dean’s Day Prize, Alvin Behrens Award, and Loyola’s teaching award. Her biographic listing appears in Marquis’ Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who of American Women, Who’s Who of American Men and Women in Science, and the International Biographic Center. She is listed in America’s Top Ophthalmologists and Best Doctors.
