Dr. Farid graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA with a degree in Biology and a subsequent master’s degree in Physiological Science. |

She earned her medical degree at University of California, San Diego in 2002. She completed a transitional year internship at Scripps-Mercy Hospital in San Diego and went on to complete her residency training in ophthalmology at UC Irvine. Dr. Farid subsequently completed a one-year fellowship training in the area of cornea/external disease and refractive surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Roger Steinert at UC Irvine where she has now joined as faculty.
Dr. Farid’s research interests focus on advanced corneal transplantation technologies, specifically the use of the Intralase femtosecond laser as well as lamellar corneal transplantation (DSEK and DALK). She also heads the Ocular Surface Disease center at UC-Irvine and collaborates with the aniridia foundation in treating patients who need limbal stem cell transplantation and artificial corneal transplantation. Her other area of research includes studying the effects of Mitomycin-C on corneal healing following refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK). Dr. Farid has written several textbook chapters in the area of corneal surgery, imaging, and refractive surgery. She has published her research in multiple peer-reviewed journals and has travelled nationally to present her research at academic meetings.
In her spare time, Dr. Farid plays the violin in her community orchestra. She also teaches spiritual education to children in her community every Sunday morning.
