UCI Faculty Profile

This laboratory is currently interested in the systematic study of the cellular and molecular components of the immune response to insulin. The objective of these studies is to elucidate what role insulin antibodies in particular and the other components of the immune system in general have on the clinical management of diabetic patients and on the etiology and pathogenesis of diabetes, obesity and aging.

  • Arquilla, E.R., S. Edwards, B. McDougall, L. Mosqueda and D. Stenger. Differences in humoral insulin antibody response among inbred Lou/M rats and epitope presentation differences in ELISA and radioimmune titrations. Diabetes 38:868.73, 1989.

  • Arquilla, E.R., B. McDougall and X. Cheng. Epitope and autoantibody restriction of insulin antibody response in Lou/M rats. Diabetes. 39:99 Abstract 396, 1990.

  • Berkowitz, K., M. Morgan, M. Nageotte, S. Alsterlind and E. Arquilla. Insulin auto-antibodies and fasting insulin levels in gestational diabetes. Accepted for oral presentation at Society for Gynecologic Investigation Annual Meeting, 1993.
