Plexus
is a student-run
annual magazine dedicated to humanities in medicine. For the past five years
Plexus has published and distributed the visual artwork, creative writing, and
musical/ audio works of all affiliates of the University of California, Irvine
College of Medicine and Medical Center. We also cooperate with several
curricular and extra-curricular programs on campus to solicit works on specific
themes, including the Patient-Doctor course exploring the unique relationship
between patient and physician, the first-year Gross Anatomy course, and the PALS
program which coordinates mentoring relationships between medical students and
chronically-ill children. We believe Plexus is in a unique position to meet a
variety of needs, both for the medical community and the general public. Not
only does it encourage pursuit of the humanistic ideal in healthcare among
medical school and medical center affiliates, it could also allow patients
across the county the opportunity to connect with their medical providers on a
much more meaningful level.
