Living In The Bonus Round

Written and Performed by:
Steve Schalchlin

In a one-hour program of story and song, lauded by the New York Times, People Magazine and Entertainment Weekly, Steve Schalchlin presents a positive and uplifting profile of one life with HIV. Steve said goodbye to his friends and family in 1996. Death from AIDS-related causes was only weeks away. Rescued from the edge of death by ground-breaking medications, Steve began writing songs about his experiences. These songs became the framework for the award-winning musical, The Last Session. Steve, and the musical, went on to play off-Broadway in New York City and recently swept the Los Angeles Theatre Critics awards.

In tonight’s program, Living in the Bonus Round, Steve will play songs from The Last Session and share the intimate stories behind the music.

“The feeling I get from singing for health care professionals and students is more exhilarating for me than just about for any other group. If I could do nothing but sing for doctors, nurses and patients, I think I would.” Steve Schalchlin on-line diary (April 2001)
