The School of Medicine offers approximately 600 ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) accredited postgraduate residency training positions in almost all areas of medical specialties. Training levels range from first year residencies through sixth and seventh year levels in highly specialized fellowships. All postgraduate training programs must meet the formal standards of the ACGME and the appropriate medical specialty boards.

All applicants must present at the time of interview, original application documents (ERAS, SF Match Urology Match accepted) including application, Dean's letter, 3-4 current letters of recommendation, PGY-1 training year verification (if applicable), current transcripts, USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 verification, photograph, CPR, ACLS or PALS certification and if required by State or federal law, ECFMG certificates, VISA's, medical license, and DEA card. All residents must be:

a.) graduated from Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited medical schools in the United States or Canada;
b.) graduated from colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States and accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA);
c.) graduated from a medical school outside the United States or Canada and possess a valid ECFMG certificate;
d.) graduated from a medical school outside the United States or Canada who have completed a Fifth Pathway training program in an LCME accredited medical school.

All applications are extensively reviewed by faculty and staff to ensure that the best-qualified applicants are selected for interviews. All applicants are interviewed by faculty and residents to assess their communication skills, motivation and integrity. At the time of the interview, all applicants are advised, in writing, that in a process similar to that, which is conducted by the California Medical Board, background checks will be conducted on all residents prior to final appointment.
