This Residency Programs is offered by the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Department of Medicine. It is intended for physicians who are seeking certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Occupational Medicine. A prerequisite to participation is a minimum of one year of postgraduate clinical training in an ACGME-approved primary care residency. The objective of the program is to prepare physicians for the comprehensive practice of occupational medicine. The resident is provided an academic foundation in occupational and environmental medicine, industrial hygiene, environmental toxicology, and epidemiology, as well as practical experience in occupational medicine. This two-year program includes didactic training and clinical and field experiences in occupational health and safety. Residents complete an MS or MPH degree program that satisfies the requirements for certification in preventive medicine and must complete a research project. Upon completion of the program, the resident is qualified to enter the specialty practice of occupational medicine in a clinical practice, corporate setting, governmental agency, or academic institution.
