Residency Life
Annual Resident Retreat
Each year, the entire residency program goes to Palm Springs for a departmental retreat. Attendance is required for all residents. Residents are excused from all clinical duties during this time. This is a great chance for residents to bond and to discuss major issues that need to be addressed over the course of the coming year.  In recent years we have infused tradition into our yearly retreat with activities such as the talent show and the hike to San Jacinto Peak.

Annual Faculty/Alumni/Resident Retreat
Each year, there is an optional retreat to which all residents, faculty, and alumni are invited. In previous years, destinations have included places such as Fiji, Switzerland, Portugal and Bora Bora.

Class Dinners
Each quarter, there are class dinners held. This allows residents to catch up with one another outside of work.

Department Dinners
Each quarter, there is a department dinner with residents and attendings in attendance. Residents appreciate this time with their attendings outside of the work environment.

Resident Lunches
Four to five days out of the week, there is lunch provided for the residents. During most lunches, there is an educational component.

Resident Meetings
Resident meetings are held every Friday at noon. This is the time for residents to meet with their chief residents in order to discuss active issues. This frequent meeting time allows changes to be implemented quickly, and keeps the residents involved and happy.

"UCI was my first choice for many reasons.  Not only are the residents here happy and extremely supportive of one another, the attending staff are approachable, knowledgeable and remember what it is like being a resident.  Our residency director is always available and proactive in implementing changes to make us more comfortable and make our experiences as positive and enjoyable as possible.  I am very pleased with my decision and proud to be part of one of the best psychiatry residency programs in the nation."
