- June 20, 2009, the Department of Pharmacology will hold its 3rd Annual Research Day (see agenda) beginning with breakfast at 9 a.m. in the Gillespie NRF. Presentations to take place immediately following in the Dr. S. Jerome and Judith D. Tamkin Student Lecture Hall, F110.
- June 17, 2009 there will be a celebration (agenda) of the joint Research Unit between UCI and the INSERM (Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale –the equivalent of NIH in France). This is the first and unique structure of this type in California. The INSERM-UCI Unit, whose Director is our joint faculty
member, Professor Emiliana Borrelli, allows the exchange of students, post-doctoral fellows and sabbatical professors, providing to UCI additional visibility at the international level.
- June 11, 2009, The French government, which is seeking to increase its international profile in science, is investing $680,000 in a UC Irvine study that’s basically a search for clues on how to treat a variety of psychiatric disorders.
INSERM
has awarded these funds to UCI microbiologist
Emiliana Borrelli, professor,
microbiology & molecular genetics and joint faculty member in pharmacology, who is examining the
neurotransmitter dopamine. Dr. Borrelli will carry out the new study with UCI professor and chairman of pharmacology,
Paolo Sassone-Corsi, a pioneering figure in the study of circadian rhythm.
