Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship
Program Director
Eliezer Nussbaum, M.D.
At UC Irvine we are pleased to partner with Miller Children's Hospital in offering one of the few pediatric pulmonology
fellowship training programs in the state of California. The program, directed by Dr. Eliezer
Nussbaum at Millers, has been in existence
for more than 15 years and has attracted outstanding candidates from the U.S. and internationally. The Pulmonary fellowship offers
tailored innovation, research projects for fellows, as well as a thorough and comprehensive program in pediatric and pulmonary
medicine. Commencing this year, we are offering a special track program for candidates interested in pursuing career in
academic pediatrics. This candidate will have a research focus on exercise physiology and children and will be eligible for a
Masters in Clinical Science at UCI.
The research interests of Fellows range from air pollution and asthma in children (under the direction of Dr. Ralph Delfino),
to immunological aspects of lung disease (under the direction of Dr. Christina Schwindt), to exercise and the impact of immunity and
growth factor in children (under the direction of Dr. Dan Cooper).
A strength of the fellowship program is strong interaction with allergy and immunology. Both Dr. Schwindt at UCI and Dr. Chin at Miller are
board certified pediatric allergists/immunologists and contribute to teaching and research for the pulmonology fellows. Plans
are underway to develop a joint pulmonology/allergy fellowship in the near future.
