Infectious Disease Research

The Pediatric Infectious Diseases faculty members have been involved in a variety of basic as well as clinical research projects.
Current projects include:

Behnoosh Afghani, M.D.
Associate Clinical Professor
Dr. Afghani has been involved in several clinical and laboratory-based research projects. She has completed and published several studies focused on diagnosis of tuberculosis. More recently, she has been involved in variety of projects:
a) An interventional programs to improve the use of palivizumab (synagis)
b) A national survey study for treatment of soft tissue and bone infections in children
c) Risk factors for intraventricular hemorrhage in premature infants.
She also presented a storyboard on “Tricycle Model: Key to Patient Satisfaction” at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement international meeting in June 2005.

Roopa Viraraghavan, M.D.
Associate Clinical Professor
Dr. Viraraghavan has completed several studies in the area of Pediatric Infectious Disease. Two of the studies focusing on infectious disease epidemiology have been presented at national research meeting and been published. She has also completed a literature review and case series on children with late onset shunt infections with P. acnes.
