Hospitalists are physicians whose primary clinical practice is focused on the care of the hospitalized patient. At UCI's University Children's Hospital, pediatric hospitalists provide individualized, family-oriented, and medically advanced care for our patients.
Outpatient primary care physicians enjoy the relationship they have with the pediatric hospitalists. Hospitalists allow outpatient physicians to focus on the care of their clinic patients while knowing their hospitalized patients are receiving quality inpatient care. Hospitalists work closely with the outpatient physicians to provide continuity of care and a smooth transition for patients when they are ready to be discharged to home.
Patients benefit greatly from the presence of dedicated hospitalists. In traditional practices, a patient may only see their doctor once a day when their physician is in the hospital for morning rounds. On the contrary, hospitalists are readily available to hospitalized patients because they are based in the hospital. High quality inpatient care is provided in a timely fashion. Patients enjoy the accessibility and working relationship that they have with the hospitalists caring for them.
Studies show that hospitalists provide high quality care while achieving improved patient satisfaction. At UCI's University Children's Hospital, we are able to provide top-notch care to our pediatric patients through physicians that are not only pediatric hospitalists, but also University faculty.
