Application Process For United States Graduates

APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED ONLY THROUGH ERAS

If you are or will be a United States and Canadian Medical School Graduate (US/Canadian):

  • Please submit all of the above required application materials only
    (NO PAPER APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED)
    This year’s deadline for submission of a completed application is November 1, 2007.
    The following are required application materials:

  • ERAS Application
  • USMLE Scores Steps I & II (or date the part II of exam is to be taken - can be announced
    on your application)
  • Medical School Transcripts
  • Photograph
  • CV/Resume (ERAS only)
  • Personal Statement
  • Current CPR, ACLS or BLS certificate (Proof required if you are granted an interview)
  • Three letters of recommendation (at least two from orthopaedicsSurgeons and/or chair
    or program director from an orthopaedic surgery program). A fourth letter is acceptable.
  • Dean's Letter

Interview dates for 2008-2009 applicants will be held on February 1st & 2nd, 2008 at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center in Orange County, California. Applications for the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program is conducted and accepted ONLY through the Electronic Residency Program Application Service (ERAS – http://www.aamc.org/ERAS) NO MATERIALS WILL BE ACCEPTED OUTSIDE OF ERAS. All applicants will be notified if an interview has been granted via ERAS e-mail.

UC Irvine, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Training Program provides a five-year continuous program. We DO NOT offer preliminary positions in which an intern or resident may plan to transition into a Fellowship before completing residency training.

Dr. Neil Jones joins the Department of the UC Irvine Center for Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery.

Dr. Stuart Green has been featured in the June 2008 Orthopedics Today magazine about his book "Dear Doctor Franklin; Emails to a Founding Father about Science, Medicine and Technology".

Dr. Steven Ross is President of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) in 2007-2008.

Dr. Ranjan Gupta selected as the Sterling Bunnell Traveling Fellow by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand for 2008.

Dr. Nitin Bhatia selected for the AOA-Japanese Orthopaedic Association Exchange Traveling Fellowship for 2008.

Dr. Ranjan Gupta chosen by Orange County Medical Association as a "Physicians of Excellence" and listed in the January, 2008 Orange Coast Magazine.

Dr. Martin Tynan is completing an Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship and will be returning to UCIMC April, 2008
