Research Interests:
Dr. Lee’s main research area is in joint biomechanics.  The main focus of Dr. Lee’s research is in the biomechanics of the shoulder and the knee. Current investigations include: 1) Shoulder injury and surgical reconstruction; 2) Rotator cuff tear and repair; 3) Knee injuries and surgical reconstruction; 4) Patellofemoral joint; 5) Total knee arthroplasty, 6) Spine

Background:
Dr. Lee received his undergraduate degree in bioengineering and his Master of Science degree in Applied Mechanics from the University of California, San Diego.  He completed his doctorate degree in biomaterials at Gothenburg University in Sweden.  He currently serves as a Professor in Residence and Vice Chairman for Research in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, Irvine.

Dr. Lee serves as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Aircast Foundation and is a member of the Board of Directors for California Orthopaedic Research Institute, Orthopaedic Research Laboratory Alumni Council and Asian American Institute for Research and Education.  In addition, he serves on multiple committees for the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons.  He serves as a grant review member for many organizations and reviews for high quality journals in his field of expertise.  Dr. Lee was elected to a “Fellow” for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), which is the highest distinction that is awarded by the society. 

He also was elected to a Fellow in the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), which recognizes individuals who made significant contribution to the field of Biomedical Engineering.  In addition, he is an elected member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Orthopaedic Research Society, American Society of Biomechanics, California Orthopaedic Association, Society for Biomaterials, and Biomedical Engineering Society.  He has published over 90 full length manuscripts, 200 abstracts and several book chapters.  He gives invited lectures both nationally and internationally on shoulder and knee biomechanics.

Dr. Neil Jones joins the Department of the UC Irvine Center for Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery.

Dr. Stuart Green has been featured in the June 2008 Orthopedics Today magazine about his book "Dear Doctor Franklin; Emails to a Founding Father about Science, Medicine and Technology".

Dr. Steven Ross is President of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) in 2007-2008.

Dr. Ranjan Gupta selected as the Sterling Bunnell Traveling Fellow by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand for 2008.

Dr. Nitin Bhatia selected for the AOA-Japanese Orthopaedic Association Exchange Traveling Fellowship for 2008.

Dr. Ranjan Gupta chosen by Orange County Medical Association as a "Physicians of Excellence" and listed in the January, 2008 Orange Coast Magazine.

Dr. Martin Tynan is completing an Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship and will be returning to UCIMC April, 2008
