Clinical Interests

Dr. Kim is the Director of the University of California, Irvine Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Division. Dr. Kim joined the UCI Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1998 with the goals to start a clinical program of reproductive endocrinology and infertility and to enhance the educational training in this field. Dr. Kim is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and its subspecialty in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Before coming to UCI, Dr. Kim's distinguished career for the past twenty-three years (1974-1997) had been at the Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine, where he served as the Vice Chairman for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1982-1996. His most recent appointment at OSU had been as the Professor and the Richard L. Meiling Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Kim has been listed as one of the Best Doctors in America and Who's Who in America and the World for many years. His untiring dedication to teaching has won Dr. Kim widespread recognition reflected by various awards such as the McClintock Award as Outstanding Teacher at the University of Chicago, Professor of the Year Award at OSU, Clinical Teaching Award, and Alpha Omega Alpha induction. He successfully directed two fellowship-training programs in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Chicago and the Ohio State University. In 1982, Dr. Kim established the first in vitro fertilization program in the Midwest region, which has expanded to include numerous advanced technologies in assisted reproduction. Dr. Kim has been on the editorial board of various scientific journals including his role as the Associate Editor of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.


Research Interests

Dr. Kim's research throughout the past two decades has made major contributions to the clinical management of hyperandrogenism in women, hyperprolactinemia during pregnancy, in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer procedures, menopausal estrogen replacement and aging. Dr. Kim's current research interests are in the clinical investigations of the management of the ovulatory dysfunction and menopausal issues and infertility.
