The main teaching hospital
for the program is UCI Medical Center, a 462 bed, full service university
hospital which is the primary teaching center for the UCI College
of Medicine. The UCI ED, a Level I trauma center which serves over
3 million people, treats over 46,000 patients annually. The 12,000
square foot modern department was built in 1981 and has 35 beds
including four resuscitation suites, an urgent care center, paramedic
base station, and a chest pain unit. Renovations are near completion
for expanded patient waiting areas and improved security measures
for staff safety. The UC Irvine Medical Center offers a full range
of primary, secondary, and tertiary care services. It offers numerous
highly specialized services including the Regional Burn Center,
the UCLA/UCI Transplant Center, the Comprehensive Seizure Center,
Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, Antoci Center for Pediatric
Urology and Nephrology, Transplant, Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplant
Program, Renal Transplant Program, UCI Sleep Disorders Center, and
the General Clinical Research Center.
