Please note that both the 630X (Research) and 630M (Ultrasound) rotations need prior approval by Drs. Lotfipour and Fox, respectively (see below).

Only completed applications can have a confirmed spot. Application status and completion is the responsibility of the applicant. A separate application must be completed and a separate application fee is required for each elective and should be returned to the Department of Emergency Medicine’s office as soon as possible. We require completed applications at least 4 weeks prior to the start date of the rotation.

• Requested UCI course name and number of weeks:
  • EM Ultrasound is 630M, but make sure you have cleared the dates with Dr. Chris Fox (jfox@uci.edu)
  • EM Extramural Elective is 630D, see specific start dates
  • EM Research Elective is 699L, needs to be cleared by Dr. Lotfipour (SHL@uci.edu)
• The 630D rotation starts on Monday concurrent only with the official UCI start dates and ends on a Sunday.
  • Please check dates prior to contacting us. For 2008-2009 they are: 6/30, 7/14, 7/28, 8/11, 8/25, 9/8, 9/22, 10/6, 10/20, 11/3, 11/17, 12/1, 12/15, 12/29, 1/12/09, 1/26, 2/9, 2/23, 3/9, 3/23, 4/6, 4/20, 5/4, 5/18.
• Rotation assignment is competitive and spots are limited for Extramural (non-UCI) students. Each completed application will require:
  • Official Medical School seal on the application form that we will send to you
  • Official Transcript
  • Current photograph
  • Photocopy of USMLE Part 1 scores sheet (official copy is not necessary)
  • Application processing fee for $100.00 (in form of a check payable to the UC Regents). International Student is fee is higher (check the College of Medicine website).

Please be aware that student applicants for residency are interviewed during the interview season based on their academic record by invitation only. For fairness to all applicants, we cannot preferentially interview applicants that complete a rotation at UCI.
