History

In 2004, the Center for Trauma and Injury Prevention Research was established in the Department of Emergency Medicine. The Center has several experienced researchers in the fields of epidemiology, traffic safety, programmatic development and health policy who have had funding from professional medical organizations, corporate entities, and state and federal agencies. Faculty associates of the Center represent the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, and the Graduate Schools of Social Ecology, Social Sciences and Business. CTIPR is currently directed by its founder Dr. Federico E. Vaca, Associate Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine and former Medical Fellow at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in Washington, D.C.

Mission Statement

The University of California, Irvine School of Medicine's Center for Trauma and Injury Prevention Research (CTIPR)is committed to the reduction of associated personal and societal burden of traumatic injury through conducting mulitdisciplinary research, translating research into policy and practice, serving as a regional and national resource , and working in close partnership with communities.
