Meeting Minutes

September 7, 2000

Participants: Arlene Sargent, Polly Walker, Marjorie Barter, Pilar de la Cruz, Andrea Hannon, Sarah Keating, Mariamma Mathai, Susan Odegaard-Turner, Carol Robinson, Dana Rutledge, Karen Sechrist, Pat Snyder

The telephone conference meeting was called to order at 10:05am. June 8, 2000 meeting minutes were approved.

The focus of today’s telephone conference was a Northern California site for the tri-partnership demonstration pilots and selection of the competencies.

Addendum: We were informed at the Implementation Oversight Committee (IOC) September 12, that we did not receive the Helene Fuld Grant. Discussions have begun about other possible grants and funding.

Tri-partnership Demonstration Alpha Pilot Sites for Competency-based Differentiated Roles

• The sites do not need to use the same model; this is an opportunity to be part of a larger group
• Fresno and Southern California will participate
• Carol Robinson from UCD Medical Center will contact Robin Nelson to see if there is an interest in participating.
• Attached is a draft of the demonstration pilot outlining the purpose, goals and objectives of the demonstration pilot site.

Competency Selection

Safety was omitted because it is less differentiated

The group discussed the competency components that would form the matrix for the demonstration pilot in the acute care setting.

The components are:

• RN Care Provider
• RN Care Coordinator
• Novice level of competence
• Competent level of competence
• Nursing process, assess, plan, implement & evaluate

The competencies are patient/family teaching and leadership

Dana will develop the competency matrix (attached)

Meeting was adjourned at 11:00 am.

The next meeting is scheduled for October 19, 2000. It will be held at the Summit Medical Center Health and Education Center (HEC) from 10:00 am – 3:00pm.
