Epidemiology as a discipline is concerned with the distribution, causation and control of disease across time and space in human populations. The mission of the Epidemiology Division at the UC Irvine School of Medicine is to study the etiology (genetic and environmental) and control of chronic disease, particularly cancer, through its surveillance, education, research and service activities.
