Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial (SELECT)
This study is no longer recruiting participants.
The Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial (SELECT) is a Phase III trial evaluating selenium and vitamin E. The primary objective of the study is to assess the effect of these agents, alone and in combination, on the clinical incidence of prostate cancer. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP) in conjunction with the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) and other partners developed the trial.
The goal of SELECT was to recruit approximately 32,400 healthy men, to be randomized over a 5 year period and followed for seven to twelve years. Study activities are performed at over 400 Study Sites in the United States and Canada. The University of California, Irvine is one of the participating sites, under the direction of Ann Simoneau, MD.
The trial is no longer recruiting at UCI, however research personnel continue to follow our UCI participants and will do so until the study’s anticipated end in 2015.
