Course Description: BC225 Course on Chromatin Structure and Function
Chromatin structural organization plays critical roles in regulating genome functions and the maintenance of genome integrity. This course focuses on current topics concerning chromatin structure and functions as well as nuclear dynamics in eukaryotes. Topics include histone and DNA modifications and modifying enzymes, chromatin assembly and remodeling, chromatin-mediated transcriptional regulation, genomic imprinting, X chromosome dosage compensation, siRNA-mediated gene silencing, mitotic chromosome dynamics, chromosome territories and nuclear matrix, and chromatin regulation in DNA repair.  Finally, the importance of chromatin regulation in human diseases will be discussed.  In each session, there will be a short lecture followed by student presentations of key research papers. This course should be registered as "GR".  No exams.  MB203 and 204 are required prerequisites.  Exception can be made by permission of the instructors.

If there are any questions, please contact Kyoko Yokomori (X48215, kyokomor@uci.edu).
