UCI Information

The UCI campus began in the early 1960's by a gift of 1500 acres from The Irvine Company to the University of California.

Today, this former ranch land has been transformed into a beautiful academic setting, set in an arboretum of plants and trees from around the world. The campus provides its 18,000 students, 1,400 faculty, and 8,500 employees with a park-like setting offering easy access to several beautiful beaches along the Pacific Ocean and boasting one of the most beautiful climates on earth.

At the center of the campus is Aldrich Park: a beautiful 21-acre circle with walkways and large graceful trees offering easy access to the academic complexes which surround its perimeter.

The Irvine Biomedical Research Center, including the School of Medicine and the William J. Gillespie Neuroscience Research Facility, are situated at the western extent of the campus. Adjacent to the College of Medicine is University Research Park, a commercial biomedical research complex.
