| Massive
sprouting of mossy fibers into the inner
molecular layer of the dentate gyrus in hippocampus 2C and its enlargement 2D are from the left side of the hippocampus and show massive sprouting of mossy fibers (arrows) into the inner molecular layer(M) of the dentate gyrus. Although the staining pattern of mossy fibers of the CA3 region appears normal, the strata radiatum and lacunosum-moleculare are thinner than the normal CA3, indicating a reduction in the dendritic length of CA3 pyramidal cells.
