UCI Neuroscience Community

UCI was founded in 1965 and already is nationally recognized as a leading biomedical research university. In the neurosciences, UCI is frequently ranked in the top 10 nationally. The National Research Council's newest (1995) rankings place UCI's doctoral programs in the top 15 in the nation among public universities, and in the top 30 among all U.S. universities. In 1995, UCI became the first public university whose faculty won two Nobel Prizes in two different fields in the same year: Frederick Reines in Physics and F. Sherwood Rowland in Chemistry.

The School of Medicine is located within short walking distance to the School of Biological Sciences and provides additional points of interaction and resources for the Department. In addition, the campus is enriched by the presence of the western headquarters of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Beckman Center of the National Academies of Science and Engineering.
